"God has chosen the foolish things of the world to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to shame the things which are strong, and the base things of the world and the despised, God has chosen, the things that are not, that He might nullify the things that are, that no man should boast before God."

1 Corinthians 1:27-29

God gave me this scripture as I began my exploration into the world of fine art. It serves as a reminder that my artwork, as a reflection of my being, should never be pretentious.

My tools are few and my workspace is small. My materials are common and my means are humble. My audience is human and my inspiration is Jesus.

What's In a Name?

Some might surmise, the act of including my middle initial in my name is a little pretentious. On the contrary, I believe the assumption that my work or my face are enough to make me stand out among others who bear the same name, is the true pretense.

Every Knee Steel Sculpture

The real reason I included it is to honor God, who instructed my parents to name me.

The "M." stands for Mahershalalhashbaz. It's the longest name in the Bible and it took up two lines on my first driver's license.

It's hard to pronounce and almost impossible to spell, but I'm supremely thankful and blessed to have it, because God graciously chose to give it.
